"SMS Curse of Silence" does not compromise nG SecurePhones |
|
Unlike other devices, the nG SecurePhone is not affected by the so-called “Curse of Silence” attack. This exploit uses a security vulnerability to make the text messaging sending and receiving functions of the affected phone unusable. Therefore a specifically formatted SMS message is send to the phone being targeted. The message crashes the phone’s SMS system, but the phone remains functional otherwise. Once the phone is infected, only a hard reset helps. So far there is no firmware update available to solve the problem. Nokia is only urging customers not to open SMS text messages from unknown senders. Also the nG SecurePhone is based on Nokia devices, users don’t have to panic. The special security architecture offers an effective protection, which detects the manipulated message and prevents damage. This Video on YouTube.com shows how it works: |
