About
The nG SecurePhone is strongly recommended for e.g. decision makers in large companies, auditors and tax consultants, medical doctors, journalists, private investigators, lawyers, governmental officials, police and military, as well as all people who attach great importance to utmost privacy in their mobile communication.
You should decide to use the nG SecurePhone if the information within your conversation is only dedicated to you and your communication partner. It is the only way you can make sure that no third party intercepts your conversation.
How many times, during calls on the status of a corporate negotiation, or on the key component of a non-disclosed product, one of the participants ends up saying "but we should not discuss this on the phone"?
Economic espionage is a reality and a threat on every communication infrastructure.
While more and more often even sensitive or critical communication is held over the mobile network, the criminal interest in GSM transmissions has been increasing in equal measure: Mobile phones are, in surveillance terms, a major liability.
Moreover, the silent tapping is no longer a high-tech trick reserved for law enforcement agencies or intelligence services. Due to cheaper techniques available e.g. in the internet, cellular snooping is affordable enough, compared to the potential profit. Even seemingly insignificant conversations can contain valuable information for a competitor.
Failure to protect business critical communication from eavesdropping and industrial espionage can be extremely harmful for an organization and can cause grave loss of competitive advantages. Non-financial damage to business can include public embarrassment for a company, the tarnishing of a corporate image, loss of business confidence from partners or shareholders and a public misconception that a company is a security risk because it cannot protect its sensitive information.
Aside from phone calls, text messaging has particularly gained in importance, not only for private use, but also in a business environment.
However, using SMS for sensitive and personal message exchanges involves risks, since SMS is transmitted unencrypted as plain text. The privacy of the content cannot be guaranteed, not only over the air, but also when such messages are stored on the handset.
Advantages
The nG Secure Phone is using the data channel of the mobile networks, e.g. GPRS, Edge, Wifi or 3G (“mobile internet”). Therefore it is not afflicted by the known shortcomings of CSD based security solutions.
Advantages
- Worldwide availability, even in the USA
- Available in most networks, even on roaming
- No need of a spezial SIM card
- No conspicuous CSD activity
- Best voice quality, stable connection
- Mixed environment with even desktop applications
Security
- Active GSM-Interception (IMSI-Catcher)
- Passive GSM-Interception
- Spyware, Malware (e.g. FlexiSpy)
- Viruses, Trojan Horses, Worms
- Man-in-the-middle
- Operator-sided tapping
- Unauthorized access to text messages
- Disclosure of sensitive data in case of loss or theft of the device
The nG SecurePhone protects mobile calls and text messages with highly secure end-to-end encryption.
The encryption and key exchange algorithms in use are globally standardized and certified and provide a reliable protection against all kind of different tapping scenarios.
For the voice encryption only the highest available encryption standard AES (Advanced Encryption Standard) with 256 bit key length is used.
The call partners exchange an encryption key using the secure Diffie-Hellman key exchange method.
Text messages are secured by an essentially AES (Advanced Encryption Standard) with 256 bits key strengths. On the phone, encrypted messages are password protected.
No – your data is safe. The nG SecurePhone offers not only secure communication, but also anonymity. Therefore the contact list is based on nicknames only – in case of loss or theft of the device no sensitive contact data are revealed.
Moreover the nG SecurePhone offers a special data-theft-protection: with a pre-set code the owner can lock, trace or wipe a stolen phone via SMS, even if the original SIM card is replaced.
On special request, we arrange a source code review for our customers. This offers you (or an expert you trust) the opportunity to check for yourself.
No, that is not possible. With every call a new key is generated within the mobile application, using a true random number. Therefore it is impossible to generate the key retroactively.
Usability
Since the nG SecurePhone is using the data channel of the mobile networks, (GPRS, Edge, Wifi or 3G) it is not afflicted by the known shortcomings of CSD based solutions.
Despite strongest encryption the nG SecurePhone offers best voice quality, equal to regular GSM calls. The experienced delay within a 3G or Wifi connection is also equal to regular GSM, within e.g. GPRS connections the latency will be minimal.
The use of the data channel enables a very stable connection (even while moving) and a fast call establishment within a few seconds.
No - it’s quite easy. The nG SecurePhone has been developed in order to make a highly professional solutions easily accessible.
A security solution can only provide protection, if it is actually in use. Therefore the nG SecurePhone is not a device for technical versed experts but rather designed to serve the demands of usability and comfort. It was developed and certified according to Nokia and Symbian specifications; therefore the use is not much different from any other mobile phone.
Additional to the high security features, nG SecurePhone comes along with the full capacity of a modern business phone, according to the respective base device. Our standard models are based on Nokia E51, Nokia N73 or Nokia N95.
On request, the nG SecurePhone can be delivered also on the basis of other Smartphones. Compatible are Smartphones of the Nokia E- or N-series and Windows Mobile based devices (version 5 and 6).
Since many people today rely on their “mobile office”, the nG SecurePhone comes along with an additional security feature: The integrated firewall combined with virus protection enables secure mobile computing and prevents spyware attacks.
Nevertheless, you should be aware of the fact that the use of internet services is a security risk. Make sure to load only data from trusted sources.
Others
Yes, you can. Unlike CSD bound solutions the nG SecurePhone can be used in almost any country worldwide, even on roaming.
The nG SecurePhone is using the data channel of the mobile networks, e.g. GPRS, Edge, Wifi or 3G. These services are available in any mobile network.
Since the nG SecurePhone can be used with almost any SIM card, you can choose from a broad variety of competitive plans for data-roaming.
No, nG SecurePhone uses the data services (GPRS, UMTS, Edge, Wifi, “Internet”) for secure calls and does not require a special SIM card.
Most likely you can use your existing SIM card and that way keep your phone number.
For reasons of economy, we recommend the use of a data option.
Since nG SecurePhone is using the data channel, encrypted calls are not charged per minute, but per data volume.
The actual costs depend on the data rates of your mobile phone provider. The most cost-effective way is a plan with a data option for your expected data usage.
A data option of 5 MB, for example, is enough for approx. 140 minutes call time.
Since nG SecurePhone uses end-to-end encryption to ensure highest security, both parties have to be equipped with an nG SecurePhone or another nG device to conduct secure communication.
However, insecure GSM calls are possible to any telephone extension.
